Sheffield based Technicut successfully completes the upgrade of their in-house SyteLine system from to v8.03 to V10, ably assisted by JPO Solutions’ technical expertise.
Technicut is a global leader in solid rotary cutting tools for the aerospace industry and has grown into a leading global supplier of optimised steel, carbide and diamond tooling derivatives for all aerospace applications, supported by one of the largest complements of dedicated CNC machinery in Europe.
The company is a long-standing Syteline customer, initially utilising Progress-based SyteLine v6 in the early 2000’s before upgrading to SyteLine v8 in 2012.
A key business driver for this latest upgrade to v10 was the need to uplift the underlying on-site technology for SQL and Windows due to these reaching ‘end of life’ support. Technicut also wished to re-assess and re-implement SyteLine’s APS functionality so it made sense to review SyteLine’s most recent capabilities in this area.
A number of personalisations had also been introduced over time to meet specific functional requirements, however these hindered previous attempts to upgrade and standardise processes, with a number no longer consistent with current business operations and processes.
Working closely with JPO, a gap analysis of personalisations was undertaken, together with a number of trial database uplifts of the to v10, identifying those specific personalisation’s that needed to be retained, this enabling the business to test and validate the latest functionality. These trial uplifts also provided accurate timings and validation of uplift scripts thus giving confidence it would go smoothly at final cutover.
As Dan McConaghie, Production Systems Manager, explains “JPO were consistent in their guidance in making sure we tested the solution effectively, including the uplifted personalisations, before moving forward to cutover”
Dan concludes “Final cutover was achieved without incident over the Christmas break thus minimising any potential disruption to day-to-day operations and we fully appreciated the expertise and support of JPO throughout the project.”
